Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). The following year, she was general reporter at NBC News in Washington. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was host and a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel of the 1988 presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan many times to summits and debate issues like that of the Iran Contra controversy.
